Pass Your Job Interview with Flying Colors

The bad economy has rendered many people jobless. Job hunting has become increasingly competitive, challenging and often times difficult. If you know where to look and if you put more effort into it, the greater chance there is for you of finding a job.
So after a long and patient wait, you finally have a company contact you for an interview invitation. You’re excited but of course you don’t want to mess this up and spoil your chance for a possible job. You need to prepare and get focused.
A job interview can be a nerve-racking experience for most people. It is the time when one proves his skills to a prospective employer. It is the time when you can possible increase your chance for a better life or a better future. The ultimate goal that you will have for the interview is to land the job and if you make the necessary preparation in advance, you will find that you will deal with the situation confidently. Here are some things to help you gear-up for the interview.
1. Dress professionally. During your interview, you need to make a good impression by wearing something that projects competency and professionalism. Dark colored suits that are conservative apply to both men and women. It is also very important to groom the hair properly and wear fewer accessories. You do not want to shift your interviewer’s attention to your big dangling earrings or be bothered by a low neckline.
2. Arrive early for the interview, don’t be late. Arriving on time shows respect and gives a good impression. This also allows you enough time to relax for a few minutes and do a personal check-up before the interview begins. Coming at least 10 minutes early is advisable. It is always wise to research about the location of your interview and the time it would take to travel. Also, give yourself an extra 30 minutes to cover up for any possible delays on the road. If you think you will be late, make the courtesy of notifying the employer for a possible rescheduling of your interview.
3. Research and be knowledgeable about the company you are applying for. Do a research on the company and take note of the products or services they offer or their type of business, customers, competitors and other related information. This will also make you and the interviewer comfortable in talking about the company.
4. Match your skills with the position’s job description. This is one way of ensuring that your skills match the company’s requirements. During the interview, point out specific examples of how your skills will make a perfect fit for the position.
5. List questions that you would like to ask about the company and the position offered. The job interview is a perfect avenue where you can explore the opportunity of working for your potential employer and at the same time, learn more about the company. Preparing a list will enable you to cover important topics and empower you on the whole interview process.
